Eranthis hyemalis

The winter aconite is a cool climate favourite. This is a winter flowering tuberous perennial which would fall into the spring ephemeral group. Surfacing in late winter flowering in spring then setting seed and going into dormancy.
Eranthis do not tolerate warm dry conditions even during dormancy, deciduous shade is the ideal position for them. To increase seed raising is the fastest.They germinate very easily from freshly collected seed which should be sown immediately. Mine self seed just a little but not enough to make a satisfying drift.
