Most salvia require regular maintenance to keep the compact but not this one which has been growing in the same spot for at least 30 years with only an annual prune.

This is the most compact salvia in my garden, each spring I cut it to the ground and after that no further pruning is required. The flowering starts in October and continues to early June.
It grows to 40cm and hardly spreads.
