Stipa gigantea

A flowering grass that provides interest for 8 months of the year. Flowering starts in late winter early spring here and the flowers/seed heads last until early winter. This Stipa makes an unruly mound of foliage 1mx1m, it sends up 2m tall flower spikes that are soft and graceful. Unlike many ornamental grasses Stipa gigantea should be left alone divide it only if absolutely necessary.It will sulk for a while after division and will take a number of years to flower abundantly after disturbance. Best grown in full sun.
