When I first saw this plant my immediate reaction was sceptical. Its hard to imagine a plant with such large leaves and exotic markings performing well in the garden. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Spotty dotty is not a great challenge. It needs good soil, shelter from wind and dappled shade. Growing to just under 1m the burgundy bell flowers are held in clusters under its leaves. The big chunky foliage sits well in the semi shade and blends nicely with finely cut foliage such as Dicentra formosa. This Dysosma also performs very well in pots and in a large container can make huge clumps.
