The parent of many good hybrids Persicaria virginiana is a striking plant for foliage contrast in the garden or a pot. The flowering is unspectacular but also unnecessary due to its heavily marked leaves. The plant grows to around 1m and is fully herbaceous. The emerging leaves in spring have very defined markings that blur a little with age. Its not entirely happy in full sun but prefers an easterly position.
