This one is a subspecies indigenous to the Balkans. Its tiny, reaching only 10cm and flowering for a long period over late winter and spring.
Sibthorpii has been in my garden for years so its a survivor, like all vulgaris forms it needs to be divided every 2-3 years I split mine any time from late May until mid August when the flower buds are visible.
Deciduous shade with good drainage and humus are the ideal ideal growing conditions.
