The dogs tooth violet is a late winter early spring flowering bulb from the West coast of North America. There are a number of species in this genus and revolutum is the most commonly cultivated in Australia.
It self seeds with abundance in cool climate gardens eventually making large drifts under deciduous trees in humus rich soil.Deciduous shade is by far the best situation for most of the genus. Revolutum has rich markings on its emerging foliage which accounts for its other name “Trout lily”
20cm self seeding
I have tubes with 2 bulbs 3 years from seed. It is unlikely they will flower this year but should the following spring.
