This genus sometimes has a reputation for being difficult. I think this reputation is based on the two most commonly know species meleagris and imperialis both of these prefer a cool moist dormancy and meleagris in particular thives in damp meadows. This is not the case for thumbergii which is fine being dry over the summer months. It is a good increaser and flowers late winter early spring and usually sets copies seed which is easily raised.
