One of perennial phlox’s great beauties is the changing colours depending on the time of day and light. Satin veil is a classic in this respect. In full midday sun its soft pink with a white eye then as the light fades it becomes soft mauve. This is a slow growing perennial reaching 70cm and gradually making a clump. The perfume is sublime.
Phlox do not make good pot plants and will never look good at point of sale. When buying these large summer flowering perennials what you are paying for is a well established root system.
