This species rivals imperialis as the most widely grown Fritillaria. Australian gardeners are often taunted by pictures of this bulb naturalised in the damp meadows of English gardens. What these pictures do is indicate the conditions meleagris likes. Its not a bulb for dry dormancy and will quickly disappear if subjected to a very dry summer. Theres two ways to overcome this, in cool climate gardens such as mine if planted deep it will return year after year, increase and self seed. Otherwise it seems to do well in pots if kept in a cool position over summer and watered periodically, during the growing season give it full sun, plenty of food and water.
These bulbs are potted into tubes for posting. The pots are way too small and they will need to be potted on or plants out over the next month.
There is 2 bulbs per pot on flowering size and one smaller.
